Keynote Address  

Keynote Address:  - *8am to 9am:  Commissioner Jonathan S. Adelstein of the FCC  will provide an overview on the FCC's current issues, rule changes, new spectrum, and other advancements pertaining to the License Exempt Wireless Internet Service Provider. * (Please note, the keynote address may start a bit later than

WISP 101 - Administrative And Financial Aspects of running a WISP - Overview of business type models (Inc, LLC, etc), marketing, selling, billing and accounting, insurance needs, and other aspects of running a small successful license Exempt WISP.      Speaker:  - Jim Hollis, IBC

 

Technical - WiMAX and the License Exempt Wait - WiMAX is growing at unsurpassed speeds in the technology world. So far, all the WiMAX pertains to the Licensed WISPs. This session will cover the WiMAX phenomena as it related to the License Exempt users. When will WiMAX hit the License Exempt spectrum? How will it help? Specialized - Buying a Licensed Link IS Affordable - Wow, you may not believe it, but the average WISP can afford a Licensed Link AND the spectrum to use it. Did you know that you can lease a licensed spectrum for a particular link for less than $3,000 for ninety-nine years? Did you know that Licensed Equipment for that link can be as low as $12,000? This session will show the attendees a multitude of approaches and business solutions in the Licensed spectrum that is affordable to most License Exempt WISPs.  Speaker:  - TBA

before your customers call? If you use WISPerMapper, it's easy to be sure that you know the health of your network. Monitor the signal strength, traffic, errors for popular wireless gear, as well as the switches, routers, and
WAN links on your network.

Regulatory Changes and Their Impact on the License Exempt WISP - This session will review recent and pending regulatory changes affecting the broadband industry as a whole.  WISPs’ place in this market will be addressed and suggestions for adapting to these changes will be discussed.  Ample time will be set aside for regulatory questions as well. Administrative - WISP 101 - Deployment Concepts and Considerations, Leveraging Your WiPOPs - The proliferation of inexpensive consumer 802.11x equipment has changed the stability and availability of much of the license exempt spectrum for WISP-usage. To offset the effect of these new "noise-sources", many WISPs should consider building "thick" networks (or Micro-Pops) with several access-points per square-mile to service densely populated areas. In this session, I will discuss the advantages and challenges faced by WISPs when implementing a Micro-Pop network. The session will include real-world examples of Micro-Pop systems. We will discuss several issues such as: hardware, costs of equipment, support, maintenance, contracts and regulation. Leaving this session, attendees will have a good understanding of what a Micro-Pop entails as well as where and why to use Micro-Pops

Practices of implementing numerous MikroTik features will be revealed during the session. fixed or mobile locations.

Getting the Most Out Your Wireless Network - Rod will discuss how WISPs can expand their business by introducing new advanced services, broadening their customer focus and implementing new business models. Rod will cite several case studies where WISPs and other network operators have established and grown their market share by expanding their business beyond traditional Internet services. Specialized - Becoming a CLEC (Pros and Cons) - This session covers the basic understandings as well as the advanced Pro's and Con's of becoming a "Competitive Local Exchange Carrier". The "Infamous" Steak Dinner - For those of you unaware - this is the ultimate steak dinner outing. If you enjoy a good steak - You'll love place we've picked out. Please make sure you sign up for the outing to ensure we make appropriate reservations for everyone. To sign up, there will be a roster at the registration booth and also at the message center board.

 

The entire group will get together at 6:30pm at the main WISPCON Registration Booth and assign transportation at that time. Those of you that have vehicles, please volunteer at that time to help those who don't have transportation.  We've managed to not leave anyone behind so far....
