8:00am - 9:00am - Keynote Address:  - New Technology, the 802.16 Standard - The new Wireless MAN standard - details and implications - The newly ratified 802.16a standard will have some long term implications for all involved in the wireless industry. Allan will cover the technical aspects of the new standard, how it relates to the ETSI Hiperman standard as well as the long term impact on this standard.

This very early market has revealed a wide number of business models, and no clear winner can yet be identified. This presentation examines the prospects of Wi-Fi hotspot services moving beyond the early market of traveling professionals. It includes analysis of primary consumer data and business cases. It will also examine the role of telcos and cablecos in moving the Wi-Fi hotspot market beyond its niche early stages.

Technical - Hot Spots are Hot - Creating and implementing wireless hot spots is one of the quickly emerging opportunities in the wireless industry. Within the next few years, wireless hot spots utilizing WiFi (802.11 based) technology will be sprouting up in public spaces like airports, convention centers, hotels, sport stadiums, libraries and coffee shops. Large corporations and education campuses will be establishing hot spots for their visitors and guests. Wireless Hot Spots will also be found in mobile transportation - in trains, planes, and buses, anywhere travelers are sitting and looking for a way to connect to the Internet and do business.
In this session, we will discuss the various technologies involved in building and operating hot spots - including the wireless technology within the location, wireless backhaul opportunities, ensuring wireless security and privacy, location and customer equipment needs, as well as how to make monetize this opportunity. This session will be targeted to service providers, carriers, ISPs and Wireless ISPs.

Telecommunication Laws 101This session will focus on he rapidly evolving world of wired telecom law and policy as it affects WISPs. Changes in FCC and state commission policy, as well as pending litigation will be discussed.  Particular attention will be paid to the FCC’s Triennial Review order and its implication for all ISPs, as well as recent developments in the regulation of voice over Internet telephony.  Ample time will be reserved to allow for questions and open discussion on any other telecom law issue.
